Day 12 Twin Falls ID to Burley ID
Day 12
Twin Falls ID to Burley ID
Miles Ridden 38.4
Climbing 1384 Ft.
Total Miles 814.4
Miles To Go 2875
Today was planned as a short ride to get us rested for the climb coming in a few days. Before the ride was fully underway we took a brief detour to Shoshone Falls, one of the twin falls. It was a steep descent into the gorge and a tough climb out. When we ascended back to the surface, the west wind had again picked up in a very helpful way. So far, Idaho is making the old Irish blessing come true...May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind always be at your back.

A better look at the falls |
Our route mostly paralleled I-84 and took us on virtually deserted but well paved roads. We're were near the river so this was still a rich agricultural area with cattle and their feed seemingly the major products.
We met and talked to another long-distance self-supported biker mostly camping on his way from Portland to Key West, Florida. He said he rode his bike onto a truck scale and they weighed 320 pounds. He was a teacher and had to be in Key West by August 25th to make it home. We wished him good luck and were grateful we had a motel room for the night.

Nothing like Ireland |
We got into town about 12:30 and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon. 70 degrees, no clouds or humidity and the relentless west wind. The support crew had organized a scavenger hunt and we formed teams for the competition. We finished second.

An 86 mile ride tomorrow to Pocatello with some significant elevation gain but still in the Snake River Valley. The climbs in the valley are mostly gradual, as opposed to the sharp stuff in the moutains.
