A family visit. I'm ready to go home

Another day of soybeans and corn, cool temperatures and good tailwinds, good roads and some very bad roads and, thankfully not many drivers. We are flying through Michigan with the favorable winds and the generally flat terrain.

Normally a 74 mile ride is about the limit of what I will do at home.  It takes up most of the day and I'm ready for a nap afterwards. 74 miles at this point on our trip calls for a late start and we were done shortly after noon and were ready for more.

As a long-time resident of Michigan, I feel it is my duty to introduce visitors to our unique attractions. In Birch Run, that is Tony's Restaurant. Well known for it's enormous portions, I felt  cyclists burning 5000+ calories daily are some of the only people who should eat there. I was only able to entice a few but I think they'll remember it

Birch Run is the closest our ride takes us to Ann Arbor and Kathie, Kristy, Dave and the grandchildren made the 75 mile drive to pay me a visit. It's been six weeks since I left home so it was the highlight of my day/week.

We got a vague update on the injury to Michael. He's going to be hospitalized a few more days. Not clear why or how long. He did tell the ride director that he probably won't be able to get back but wants to finish the last 5 miles to the ocean in New Hampshire. Hope he can.

We finish our run through Michigan tomorrow with an 88 mile trip through the Thunb to Port Huron.
