Day 43 Rest Day Niagara Falls
Day 43
After a relatively easy trip through Michigan and Ontario, the group probably didn't need a physical recovery day as much as day to mentally recharge before the last week of riding. Our hotel was adjacent to the Falls, the bridge to Canada and a huge casino so there was lots to do.
Having spent four years at Niagara University and visiting here a number of times since and never riding the Maid of the Mist, I decided that was something I'd get done. It exceeded my expectations and made me wonder my I had never done it before.

As an "expert" on the area, I led a group of riders on a bike path downriver to view the Whirlpool, The Niagara River Gorge and stopped for a picture at the gate to Niagara University. It was a month short of 50 years since I saw it for the first time. The front of the campus still looks the same including the freshman dorm that was ancient when I was there. Riding back through town, at least half the buildings I recalled from my days there were either torn down or boarded up. Niagara Falls has about half the population it did in 1968.

Evin and I checked out the casino that night and won a bit at blackjack. The casino seems to be the only booming business in town.
We should dig up a picture of you in front of that sign in 1968.
